About IMG
Islamic Memorial Gardens was established in September 2005, by Robert Berry. Mr. Berry, along with a Board of Directors, comprised of both Muslim and non-Muslim members, purchased an adjacent non-denominational cemetery (Maple Grove Cemetery) and 20 vacant acres of land. The 20 vacant acres of land has been transformed into a completely separate cemetery for families of the Islamic faith, referred to as, Islamic Memorial Gardens. This is the FIRST true Islamic cemetery in the state of Michigan.
There are two phases of construction, phase 1(North end) and phase 2 (South end). Phase 1 is now open and pre-arrangements are being taken. There are approximately 6,000 graves available in this phase. Phase 2 will begin construction in the spring of 2008. Phase 1 progress will continue and include new fencing, gateway, paths, bench seating and Quran’s in premium areas. We provide next day interments along with proper lot direction facing Mecca.
This venture is the result of Robert Berry’s vision to provide the Islamic community with a final resting area dedicated solely to their faith. With seven years of preliminary work, Mr. Berry was able to begin construction on this project. Unfortunately, due to an untimely death in January 2007 he was unable to see his dream become a reality. Assuming his place, his eldest daughter, Yvonne Berry has successfully launched her father’s vision. It is with the support of local mosques, funeral homes and the Islamic community that together we are making history.
